Cowichan Valley is the Island's wine and farm country. More relaxed than Victoria without being far from it, and most of what's here is vineyard estates, working farms, and lakefront properties.
What the Valley is good at
This is where to look if you want a vineyard or a farm with room to spread out. Ceremony under trees, long tables, slow pace. It suits that far better than it suits a formal ballroom.
Prices sit under Victoria while staying close enough that Victoria vendors travel without charging much for it. Duncan is the middle of it, about an hour up-Island.
What to plan around
Accommodation is the catch. There are fewer rooms here than in Victoria or Nanaimo, so sort lodging and rides early, especially if there's a bar and people need a way home. Farm and barn venues price bare too, so get the cost of tables, chairs, lights, and washrooms before you compare anything to a resort.
