Kakes & Kanvas
Artist-led bespoke wedding cakes and dessert experiences designed around your story, setting and guest experience.
About
Kakes & Kanvas is built around the creative practice of Kalia Gounden, a self-taught artist and baker creating bespoke desserts in Calgary and surrounding communities. She approaches each cake, dessert and creative experience with intention and a personal touch, grounded in her belief that thoughtful, beautiful work should help people celebrate and connect.
For weddings, Kalia designs cakes and coordinated desserts that feel woven into the day itself. Rather than working from a catalogue, she interprets your invitation, florals, venue and palette to create something that belongs to your specific celebration. Beyond a single showstopper cake, she can build a dessert table for guests to discover, offer individual plated portions, or design edible favours and welcome gifts. The whole process starts with a simple brief—your date, venue, guest count, atmosphere and budget are enough to shape the creative direction.
Her approach is grounded in how guests will actually experience dessert: whether through a shared cake-cutting moment, a collection they explore over time, or seamless plated service. Kalia is directly involved in every project, meaning clear communication and hands-on attention come standard.
