Native Sons Hall

Built in 1928 as Courtenay's original Recreation Centre, Native Sons Hall is the largest free span log building in Canada. The main building is composed of 500 cedar logs set on a concrete foundation, with 10 massive roof timbers each weighing 6.5 tons and spanning 66 feet. The hall was designed by Bill Eastman, one of Canada's top bridge builders, and became the cultural heart of downtown for decades, hosting dances, basketball games, fairs, roller skating, and community gatherings.

The venue was granted heritage status in 1987 and underwent extensive restoration inside and out in 2010. Today it remains available for weddings, dances, concerts, and community events. The facility includes multiple rental spaces: the Grand Hall, Lodge Room, Dining Room, Parlour Room, and Lower Kitchen. It's wheelchair accessible with ample parking and offers hourly rental rates for meetings and events.
